Lazy Summertime

It's time for another update on farm life. Summer is upon us bringing with it hot, humid days. Often I find myself scanning the horizon looking for the formation of thunderheads and hoping that one of the showers will find our farm! It's hard to believe that at the time of my last post, we were hard pressed to find a dry spot to place our feet and now we're wishing for rain! Such is life.
The cattle are doing great. We now have a "flerd." (flock+herd) Several weeks ago I combined the sheep flock with the cattle herd, and after several days of getting acquainted with each other and the sheep escaping the curiosity of the cattle, they have settled down and are doing great together. It's actually a protection for the sheep to have them with the cattle, as there is less chance of a coyote doing them harm when they are with the cattle. As of this evening, our sheep flock increased by another 23 ewe lambs purchased from a neighboring farm. We're looking forward to December when we will process our first lambs and have 100% grass-fed and finished lamb to eat and sell.
We have our freezers completely full of beef after bringing home two animals worth of meat.
That's all for now.
As always, you're welcome to come out and pay us a visit and look at our farm and the way we raise our animals.
Till next time,
Craig
