Shady Grove Pecan Company

Shady Grove Pecan Company

Shady Grove Pecan Company

In the fall of 2018, my wife and I purchased pecan cracking and shelling equipment from the Peeples Pecan Company out of Starkville, Ms. They had been in business for 35 years and had a loyal clientele due to their attention to detail and only selling the finest pecans.

They were kind enough to let us use their facility for our first season and we were able to learn about pecan cracking and shelling from Mr. J L. and also meet a lot of their old customers.

In 2019, we built a combination Pecan shop / Farm store on our farm in Macon, Ms. This building serves the needs of both New Grass Farms and Shady Grove Pecan Co.

Life is full of changes and in 2022 we consolidated our two businesses, New Grass Farms and Shady Grove Pecan Co., into one, Shaded Grove Farm Market.

Crack, Shell & Blow - How It Works

We custom crack pecans for the public. Shell crack, as some folks say, isn't any fun if you try to do it with your hands.

We have machinery that makes shell cracking easy. Not only do we crack the shells, but we also have a pecan sheller. After the pecans have been cracked, we run them through our sheller.

This process knocks the pecans loose from the shell and they fall out as shelled pecans.

The next step in the process is to run the shelled pecans through the blower. This blows out the pecan hulls and what's left are nice, clean pecans.

It depends on the variety of pecan and the quality, but they usually shell out quite nicely and you are left with little work left to do.
